Offset by the vast tranquil waters of the Swan River, the beautiful city of Perth is a tourist's delight. Modern and vibrant, it contasts with its historic counterpart – the port city of Fremantle, which is just a 20 minute drive away. Tourists commonly refer to Perth as the 'friendly city' and famous notables have also renamed the city after their personal experiences. Astronaut John Glenn called Perth the 'City of Lights' after his historic fly-over in 1962 and victorious America's Cup skipper Dennis Connor referred to it as the 'most isolated city in the world'.

Whet your appetite with a day on the Swan River, a picnic to the Darling Ranges, a visit to a vineyard or a stroll around Perth or Fremantle. From outdoors to indoors, a fabulous range of city and suburban shops will satisfy even the most particular tourist, with everything from traditional Australian gifts and garments, opals, Kalgorrlie gold and precious diamonds to succulent local seafood, tender red meat and fresh fruit and vegetables. Most find Perth bright, fun, friendly and relaxing but you're sure to find your own way to describe it after your visit.

when to go?

The area around Perth enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with warm to hot summers and cool, wet winters. Summer (Dec–Mar) is usually quite hot and incredibly dry, sometimes without rainfall for months. Temperatures are on average highest in February, where it's not uncommon for many consecutive days over 35°C. Thankfully there is a cool breeze that known as the 'Fremantle Doctor' that rolls in every afternoon from the west. Winter can be chilly and wet, but rarely does the temperature fall below 0°C.

perth is the sunniest capital city in australia!

With an average of 8 hours of sunshine a day, we have the climate California thinks it has. For more information about climate and weather in the Experience Perth region, have a look at the Bureau of Meteorolgy.
